Self-care & Me time

Well hello fine friends! Here we are with another blog, reopening the discussion around mental health and sharing some self-care tips that you can share with your friends on your next Zoom cocktail party lol. 

I’m pretty sure we can all agree that 2020 has definitely served as a reminder of how precious life is and that sometimes slowing down and taking care of ourselves (physically and mentally) should be done as a priority.

When I became a parent I like many other parents instinctively put my children first. I mean that's what you're meant to do, right? But no... After going through a deep depression after my second child was born, I recall having a conversation with my mother saying "if you don't look after yourself Fin, how can you look after your children?" (mum I don't know if I’m remembering that correctly or if it was a figment of my imagination but let's just run with it because I genuinely felt those words whenever or whoever said it to me). 

Since that day, I still find myself reverting back to old habits - forgetting to eat because I have a load of laundry to hang to dry or cleaning the house when a 20min nap whilst the kids are at school could save me a headache later. But that's pretty normal. We're human! 

However, I have learnt that if you work hard you MUST rest hard too and this is certainly true. If you're going to take a day off, do it right! That's my motto. 

So what does "me-time" look like for a Mama of #ThreeLittlePandas

    1. Spray all day - Rose Spray

Some days when I feel like I need that extra nudge to wake up, I use Grace & Stella Rose Spray. After 4 sprays on the face (eyes closed obvs.) I immediately feel the hydrating effects. #sorefreshing and smells out of this world. 



The spray is paraben free, sulfate free which makes it super safe for sensitive skin. If I'm honest when I first tried it, it was the smell and how it made my skin feel that got me hooked but after reading all the benefits of this little item and after further use I thought it had to be added onto our gift shop for more people to enjoy and reap the benefits. 

2.  Bath time

Sitting in a warm tub is so comforting - especially when you do it right! 

Bath salts: use a bath salt blend that has himalayan bath salts in it.

3. Get the candles out

Lavender scented candles are my fave to set a relaxing tone. 


Lavender helps improve sleep, reduces blood pressure and fun fact: potentially promotes hair growth (of course this is when applied to the hair directly but why not throw in some facts to help back why we love lavender so much and get you ready for your first post-lockdown pub quiz?). 


We have a variety of scented soy wax candles available in different sizes to choose from, each created using essential oils to give that clean and quality smell. Paraben free and hand-poured by our friends at @atria_fragrance we are proud to have created this line as candles are a must have in our home. I mean... just watching the soft flame of a lit candle makes us all warm and fuzzy inside. 

4. Eye masks

Ooooh when parenthood gives you eye bags for days - Especially in the early days! 

I'm pretty sure it was meant to be that I would be referred to as Mama Panda - ha! 

So I have 2 routines when it comes to my eyes. 

As someone who has frequent headaches and suffers from migraines I'm very aware when "it's going to be a bad one". Over the past couple of years I think I may have nailed it. 

When I feel a headache coming on I down a pint of water, switch off everything (TV, phone, lights) and attempt a nap with my Made by Coopers lavender Eye Pillow. I warm it up on our radiator (because we don't have a microwave - but you can pop it in the microwave) lay back and usually within minutes I'm KO. 20mins or so later I feel way better. 

Of course if "my friend" is popping out (a vein on my left temple) I KNOW it's going to be a bad one, so I do take painkillers and do all of the above too. 

-unfortunately on the days where I can't nap I just soldier through and hope for the best lol. (this is real talk after all) 

New to the regime: Grace and Stella Eye Mask. 


A different kind of mask we've added to our webshop - currently available in boxes of 12 pairs are these anti-wrinkle & energising eye masks. It literally does what it says on the box. You apply it to clean, makeup-free skin and place the masks on the under eye area for about 15minutes. During that time it brightens, depuffs and hydrates. Sounds like a dream? During winter skin can play games with you, which is why I find it nice to rotate skin regimes and haircare up from time to time.
